Garbage in Montrose

Responsibility. It’s easy to point the finger. The City of Glendale should do a better job emptying the trash containers. Or maybe the local merchants like Froyo (many, many of the containers are from Froyo) should supply more trash containers or even better yet go outside and collect the trash. Or maybe, just maybe those of us who buy from Froyo (and the other merchants) could just walk a few more steps and throw our trash away like civilized human beings.

So yes the responsibility falls in a wide circle. It includes the merchants, the city, and yes even the customers. Let’s not forget that Glendale is a special place because we are a community, a community where everyone pulls together to make Glendale a special place.

Zekes BBQ Smoke House

Urban Toot Zekes Banner

I have to be honest. I went to Zekes years ago when they first opened up and I wasn’t very impressed. The food was okay but I felt like it was on par with fast food. As you can imagine I never went back. That is until now. The truth is that  I’ve been hearing good things about Zekes BBQ and I thought well, I gotta go back and give them a second chance. Let me tell you something. I’m glad that I did.

First up I have to say. How cool is it to sit outside in Janruary with shorts and a T-Shirt on and have a nice time. I think it’s great! What else is great? Well let me tell you. I had some sort of sliced pork sandwich that was put on a french roll, melted cheese with peppers on top and then of course a small bowl of dipping juice. It was so good! In fact it was better then good! It was great! However I have to tell you what was FANTASTIC… The onion rings. They were done just how I like them. The coating was a batter which was so smooth and easy to eat! So glad that I ordered them and not the french fries for a change! Way to go me!

baby back ribs from Zekes BBQ in GlendaleThe other two people in my party ordered the baby back ribs and the pulled pork sandwich. Both said that they were very good and I have to admit that I tried the baby back ribs and they were very flavorful and juicy. I fully enjoyed my meal. Had a great time with great service. I completely encourage everyone to try it out for themselves and let us know what you think!

You can find Zekes at 2209 Honolulu Ave., Montrose, CA 91020    The telephone number is 818-957-7045, I believe that you can call ahead and they’ll have take out ready for you.

According to the website their hours are:

You can find a link their menu here but it doesn’t look like the same menu I ordered from. I have a feeling that they have updated the menu but not the website. Thats okay just understand that you might not find exactly what you are looking for on them menu.

Lights. Camera, Action!

movie lights

One of the things I love about living in Glendale is seeing all the TV Shows, Commercials, Films, Music Videos being made. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a celebrity in this town but I love the buzz, the excitment, the lights and the cameras. Plus it doesn’t matter if we are watching Will Ferrell streaking through Montrose, Eddie Murphey playing with the kids in Verdugo Park in Daddy Day Care, or the Sons of Anarchy crew in Montrose it’s always fun to spot your town on the TV or Silver Screen. Hollywood might be over the hill but sometimes it’s just around the corner.

What shows have you seen on TV/Film/Video that were filmed in Glendale?

Coffee, Computer and Coyote Craziness

Egads, Another Coffee House In Montrose

How much coffee do we really need?  The idea of Starbucks wanting to add a location on the corner of Ocean View and Honolulu is simply ridiculous.  Not only is there the well established business of Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf directly across the street, but there is also Black Cow, City Hall, and Java Brew.  All of these businesses are within the few short blocks of the Montrose Shopping Park.  Next thing you know they’ll be wanting to add another sushi bar.

Computers Stolen From Freemont

When a common thief doesn’t even have the decency to refrain from burglarizing and elementary school he/she crosses over in to the realm of completely repulsive professions.  Unless they have been living in a bubble, in which case they probably wouldn’t need all of the ten computers they stole and most likely won’t be able to acquire a wifi signal, they have to know that our schools have already been hit hard enough by continual government cutbacks.  Yes, insurance will cover the replacement costs, but it will do nothing to keep us from feeling that our children’s educations have been violated yet again … but on a whole new level.

County Coyote Killings

Los Angeles County has rationalized that a pack of coyotes who took up residence in a burned out home in the foothills will be euthanized.  They have decided that this is more humane than relocating them.  (I don’t get it either)  But first they are allowing a media circus to take place on the street in front of the home.  I’m hoping the coyotes decide to flee from the glare of the paparazzi’s lights and cameras, as so many celebrities usually do, before the County gets a chance to carry out their death sentence.

Coyote Update:  A Reprieve

Plan A was to trap the coyotes, euthanize them, and then tear down the house.  Now, after many many complaints, the County is moving forward with Plan B.  They will tear down the house and encourage the coyotes to relocate.

And why didn’t they try this more logical plan in the first place?
